The CUHK School of Architecture began working with the M+ Research Centre in 2024 to explore different ways of engaging with architectural archives. It started with a pilot project in Jan 2025, involving faculty and students to work alongside M+ archivists as they unbox the 20,000+ archival items by the influential 1960s architectural studio, Archigram.
This project is a research initiative to study topics in modern architecture through primary sources and an educational opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience with original architectural material. The pilot phase has established a working method to identify latent information from the archives, and interim findings were shared and displayed at the School of Architecture with positive feedback. It is anticipated to continue in the summer for further investigation and begin to map out the network and relationships extracted from the archival material.
