This work presents the interim findings of the EoP research initiative, which brings together the fields of urban architecture, arts, and technology, sharing a common interest in the practice of participation as a creative tool. Taking the Prince Edward Flower Market as a site for investigation, we have conducted a series of field workshops over the past year to build a collective repository of “Imaginaries” about the place. The process involves the traditional “urban walk” to collect sight, sound, and story of the site, to including technology to mediate and participate in our creative process.
The result is here on display as 4 layers (from top to bottom):
- keywords: the human input of keywords from the walk + extraction from official documents,
- objects: technology-mediated capture of items and texture of the site,
- sceneries: the generated+real images resulting from the “AI prompts” jamming session
- conversations: in the drawers, the “behind-the-scenes” AI prompt and conversation.
The purpose of these workshops are less about seeking a definite “answer” for what the flower market should be, but rather a collective imagining of what it could be…… it progresses from left to right: (a) the stereotype of AI bias about the keyword “HK Flower Market” to (b) the sci-fi/ literature/ whimsical imagination of the place, (c) back to a grounded AI interpretation of official documents and news report… as it progresses, the boundary began to blur between what is “real” or “imaginaries”….
This is intended to be a work-in-progress (as Prototype 2.0), an evolving piece that we invite visitors to share with us their impressions and stories about the flower market. These stories may be used to produce new material to be added to the collection throughout the duration of the biennale.
